Welcome to Mrs Quirk’s Year 1 class! The children have made a wonderful start to the term and I am sure this will continue throughout the year. They are all so polite and helpful and trying their very best in everything they do.
In our morning class we have children from Infant 3, 4 and 5 who then join their respective classes for their learning in the afternoons.
The children now have reading books and weekly home learning tasks. We encourage children to read each night and practise their phonics to support their learning in school. We ask them to read their books at least twice at this stage: the first time using their phonics skills to decode and then the second time to gain better understanding for comprehension skills and to develop fluency. Details of home learning tasks can be found on our newsletters or in our home learning books.
Don’t forget to take a look at our ‘See-Saw’ app to see the type of work and activities taking place in class. We also keep parents up to date with class news and life through our weekly newsletter. These can be accessed using the links at the bottom of this page.
