All pupils with additional needs are welcome at Cobbs Brow School. We are committed to meeting the special educational needs of children and ensuring that they make good progress. We carefully assess and closely track pupils to ensure there is early identification of any additional needs. We seek to provide a high quality academic education for all pupils according to their needs, and to develop attitudes of mutual respect and responsibility.
Quality first teaching techniques and carefully planned additional interventions are used in school to support pupils. Where pupils need more individual support, an IEP (individual education plan) is devised by the class teacher to provide extra support.
This is shared with pupils and parents. This stage is called SEN support. Sometimes, it may be necessary to work with outside agencies such as speech and language therapists, occupational therapists, physiotherapists, CAMHS and educational psychologists to gain advice and resources for our pupils. Pupils with more complex needs may need to undergo statutory assessment so that an EHCP (education and health care plan) can be put in place and agencies can work together in order to provide adequate support. A copy of our full Local Offer can be found on our school website. If parents have any concerns about their children, they can contact the SENCO, Miss Sharples or Headteacher, Mr Eaton at school.

Schools’ duties around accessibility for disabled pupils
Schools and LAs need to carry out accessibility planning for disabled pupils. These are the same duties as previously existed under the Disability Discrimination Act and have been replicated in the Equality Act 2010 Part 5A of the Disability Discrimination Act 1995 (DDA) requires the governing body to:
- promote equality of opportunity for disabled people: pupils, staff, parents, carers and other people who use the school or may wish to; and
- prepare and publish a Disability Equality Scheme to show how they will meet these duties.
